The battery of the Smart unlike most cars is located inside the passenger compartment under the passenger side mat. First of all, in fact, it will be necessary to extract the mat and lift the carpet to identify it easily, this will be fixed inside its housing by means of a metal band that can be disassembled simply by unscrewing the nut that fixes it in position. Once the fastening band has been removed, it will be necessary to disconnect the cables, these will be fixed to the two battery poles by means of two clamps that can be detached by unscrewing the pin above them, it is also advisable to first remove the negative pole and pay attention to do not create any kind of contact between the two poles. Once both poles have been disconnected, you can proceed by disconnecting the acid vent tube on the side of the battery itself. For this operation it is advisable to protect your hands using a pair of gloves. At this point the battery will be permanently disconnected from the car and can be removed from its housing to be recharged or replaced with a new one.
