To programme the key for the Smart, insert the virgin key into the ignition barrel of the car and turn it to position two to activate the instrument cluster: at this point, connect a diagnostic tool to the vehicle's OBD port. Follow the instructions in the tutorial, selecting the relevant car model and corresponding version; this will allow the key to be programmed.

You can then use it to check that it functions, and finally disconnect the scanner and turn off the instrument cluster.
