What to do if the brake lights are not working? The most immediate thing to do is to check the dedicated fuse, consulting the user manual of our car to find the location and amperage of the brake light fuse. Check it and eventually replace it. If the fuse is intact, then the problem is the bulb. We will have to disassemble the rear light cluster; the brake light bulb is the one with the thicker filament. If it is burnt out, simply replace it. If the problem is not this, then the suspicion falls on the brake switch, and to test it you will need a multimeter. The switch is located above the brake pedal; disconnect the connector, set the multimeter to "continuity" and with the pedal released, place the probes on the two switch terminals. The multimeter should not beep. Ask someone to press the brake pedal: now the multimeter should beep. If one of the tests fails, the switch is faulty and needs to be replaced; if both are correct then the problem is in the wiring or ground.
