Three types of problems may occur with the brake pedal: the first is that the pedal suddenly becomes very hard; in this case, the fault lies with the brake booster, as the pipes or vacuum pump may have broken and the diaphragm is no longer functioning. The result is that the brake pedal feels like a wall, even though the vehicle still brakes. Another problem is that the pedal no longer holds and goes to the end of its travel. In this case, the brake pump may be faulty, or there could be a leak from the flexible hoses. The first check is to see if there is a leak (which is very dangerous). The last possible problem: when braking, the pedal feels long, the brakes are soft, and the pedal returns up. This means that an air bubble has formed in the system; therefore, it is necessary to bleed the braking system, including the ABS.
