How to Reset the Service on VAG Group Vehicles with the VCDS System

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

Let’s see how to reset the maintenance on VAG group vehicles using the VCDS system: connect to the car, which must have the ignition on, via the EOBD port. Open the VCDS software on your laptop and click on "autoScan"; select the "17-instruments" module (or Service reset) then click on "coding" (or "adaption"). In the menu, look for the entries related to the service "Reset ESI" or "service interval". With "reset oil change interval" we reset the oil change interval. On "Adaption Channel": set channel 02 to the number of days until the next maintenance; channel 40 to the kilometres until the next maintenance; channel 41 to the days until the next maintenance. Confirm and return to the main menu, selecting "service reset", then follow the on-screen instructions; turn off the car and disconnect the VCDS. It is very important to use an original VCDS cable.

First, ensure the key is not inserted, then open the bonnet and move to the front of the left headlamp. Next, locate the bolt just behind the filter box and connect the positive terminal clamp to it.
