To change the speedometer from mph to km/h (or vice versa) on a Volkswagen Golf VIII, access the settings menu on the dashboard. From the main screen, select "Settings", then "Units". At this point, you can separately modify two options: "Distance" and "Speed". To switch to kilometres, set "Distance" to "Kilometer" and "Speed" to "Kilometers per hour". The system automatically updates the speedometer and odometer display without needing additional confirmations or restarts.

The same procedure works in reverse to switch back to miles per hour. It is a simple operation, accessible in seconds directly from the steering wheel controls or the touchscreen, without the need for tools or mechanical intervention.
