Replacement of Coolant Temperature Sensor

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

This video shows how to change the coolant temperature sensor on a Volkswagen Passat. It is not a straightforward task as the sensor is located in a position that is not very easy to reach. Once you locate the sensor, use pliers or a screwdriver to remove the clips around the coolant pipe. Now, you can detach the intake manifold cover with your hands. There is still a cable obstructing the view of the sensor: move it after releasing the clips holding it in place. Next, use a screwdriver to unclip the horseshoe clips that secure the sensor. With some effort, free the sensor, which remains attached only by the electrical connection. Disconnect it by pressing the clip on the connector. Keep the old sensor's O-ring and take a new one. Position it as before, applying the horseshoe clip and connecting it to the connector. Reassemble everything as it was.
