Replacement of Coolant Temperature Thermostat

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

Open the engine bonnet and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for safety. Raise the vehicle on the lift. The sensor is located on the engine block at the height of the water pump. Open the expansion tank cap of the radiator, remove the water pump to access the sensor for easier removal. Disconnect the cable connector and unscrew the retaining spring screws of the sensor. Pull the sensor out of its housing and install the new sensor after cleaning the seat of any dirt, then proceed to reassemble the various elements previously removed. Reconnect the connector and top up the coolant.
