Replacing the Coolant Temperature Sensor

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005
Part: Thermostat

Open the bonnet and locate the temperature sensor under the windscreen. Remove the two hose clamps on the water duct to detach the control block. The thermostat is installed on an aluminium elbow connected to various water hoses; to remove it, simply wiggle it firmly and pull it out. Install the new thermostat and proceed to reassemble the previously removed components. Refill the coolant if necessary and check for proper operation.

Over time, frequent use of the key's flip mechanism in the vehicle, dozens of times a day, inevitably leads to wear of the internal spring. As shown in this video, replacing the spring is quite simple and takes little time.
