Removing the Airbag from a Volkswagen Golf

Let’s see how to remove the airbag unit from the steering wheel of a Volkswagen Golf. Rotate the steering wheel until the left spoke is at the top; you will find a hole behind it where you can insert a short flathead screwdriver to push inward. At the same time, grasp the centre of the steering wheel with your hands and pull until it releases. Now, turn the steering wheel to bring the right spoke to the top and repeat the same procedure. Rotate the airbag unit and, using a flathead screwdriver, disconnect the electrical connector from the steering column to completely free it.
