How to Diagnose the Electric Lock of the VW Golf's Tailgate

If the interior lights remain on even with the doors closed or if you cannot activate the central locking, it is likely that an electric lock in one of the doors has failed. Usually, the micro switches inside the lock mechanism get damaged, preventing it from communicating with the comfort module about whether it is open or closed. This is a common fault in many VW and Audi models. You can either attempt to disassemble and replace the micro switch or easily find a rebuilt replacement in the aftermarket, costing between £25 and £33.
