Don't worry, changing the rear shock absorber is not impossible but it requires a bit of skill and patience. Put the scooter on a stand and remove the rear fairing to access the shock absorber. Unscrew the upper and lower bolts of the shock absorber, use some penetrating oil if they are tight. The swingarm may lower so support it with a jack or a box. Once you have removed the old shock absorber, insert the new one, put the bolts back in and tighten them well, and make sure everything is aligned. Reassemble the fairing, take a test ride, and enjoy the difference. If you don't feel comfortable doing it on your own, contact a trusted workshop.

How to Remove the Final Drive from a BMW R 1200 GS?

To remove the final drive from a BMW R 1200 GS, loosen the bolts securing the exhaust so it can be removed along with the rear wheel. The rear wheel will also be removed by unscrewing the five bolts that secure it to the swingarm. Next, detach the brake caliper by unscrewing the mounting bolts and remove the rear part of the swingarm. Inside, you will find the final drive, which should be extracted and replaced with a new spare part; after replacement, reassemble all previously removed components.
