How does the fuel pump work on Fiat 500?

Answer

The fuel pump is operated by the camshaft by means of a rod that crosses the crankcase from right to left. This rod pushes a lever which acts on a membrane which, through an inlet and an outlet valve, draws the petrol from the tank and pushes it under pressure towards the carburetor. Inside the pump (if it can be disassembled) there is a small brass mesh filter with very fine meshes that acts as the first filter for the garbage contained in the petrol. The second filter is located in the bolt (wrench 19) of the carburetor near the inlet of the fuel line.
