When disassembling the engine for head gasket replacement, observe several precautions during reassembly. First, check the flatness of the surfaces (both the head and the cylinder block) using a straightedge and a feeler gauge.

Re-tap the threads of the mounting holes and check piston clearance to avoid any knocking. Then, install the new head gasket and the cylinder head itself, using a new set of bolts for secure fastening.

Follow a cross-pattern tightening sequence, using both a torque wrench and a regular wrench.
