To replace the air filter on a BMW R 1200 GS LC, you need to remove the fairing located in the central part of the fuel tank. This will be secured with five screws; the first two will be hidden underneath the seat, so remove the seat to unscrew them. The other three will be visible on the opposite side near the handlebars. After removing the five screws, the fairing should come off easily, providing access to the air box that houses the air filter located between the fuel cap and the handlebars. There will be four screws at the corners of the air box; these must be unscrewed to remove the cover of the air box that contains the air filter. Once the cover is opened, you will have access to the air filter, which will be held in place by a plastic frame. At this point, simply remove the plastic frame to replace the filter with a new one, and then reassemble everything in the reverse order of disassembly.
