Before proceeding to replace the final drive oil in your BMW R 1200, ensure your bike is stable and secure, which in this case means placing it on a stand. This should be done to safeguard the operator's safety and should be done whenever starting a maintenance operation on a vehicle or bike. First, remove the rear wheel splash guard. At this point, unscrew the two bolts that seal the oil fill and drain holes (after placing a container underneath). The two holes are located on the element covering the rear wheel spindle. After draining all the old oil and cleaning the bolts, close the drain hole and pour 170-200 ml of new oil into the fill hole.
