To change the alternator belt on a BMW R1200 GS, place the bike on its centre stand, if available, and remove the crash bar in front of the black plastic cover. Remove the spark plugs and take off the right aluminium duct. Unscrew the screws securing the alternator belt cover, and use a 34mm socket to rotate the lower pulley. To remove the belt, you can either cut it or, if you want to salvage it intact, use a sturdy screwdriver to help it out of its seat while simultaneously rotating the lower pulley. Fit the new belt first onto the upper pulley, then position it on the lower pulley, ensuring it enters its seat as you rotate the pulley. Refit the cover, then the duct, the spark plugs, and the crash bar.
