How do you replace the key battery in a BMW X1?

Model: BMW X1 F48 - Years 2015-2022
Part: Key

Changing the key battery is very easy to do in DIY mode. Take the key and remove the metal part of the physical key, then look on the back, you will see a small slot. With a flat screwdriver or a coin, gently pry and remove the cover. Now you will find the battery, usually a CR2032. Remove it carefully and put the new one making sure that the positive + side is facing upwards. Put the cover back on by pressing firmly until you hear a click. Now try to unlock the car to see if everything works. If you do not feel confident to operate in DIY mode, contact an expert person.

Replacing the Engine Battery

As this is a generic operation for all types of vehicles, there is no need to specify the make or model. Begin by unscrewing the nut of the clamp located at the base of the battery; loosen the nuts of the terminals on both poles, first removing the positive pole (be careful not to touch metal parts with the terminals). Once the battery is extracted, replace it with one of similar specifications (consult the user manual) and reposition it in its housing, reconnect the terminals starting with the positive to avoid sparks, and tighten the terminal nuts to secure them. The final step is to reapply the clamp and tighten the retaining nut at the base of the battery.
