How to Replace Key Buttons

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003

In this video, you will learn how to replace the buttons on your car key, which can wear out over time. First, use the tip of a flathead screwdriver to open a small slot located on the back of the key. Here, you will find 2 screws that can be removed with a star screwdriver. At this point, you can open the key and immediately notice the battery that powers the key fob. Gently pry off the entire battery holder, as there is a circuit board located underneath it. Now, you need to remove a small chip located on the side of the key compartment; be very careful because each chip is programmed to work for only one car. At this point, simply push with some pressure the buttons to be removed from the outside so that you can extract them more easily from inside the key. Always perform everything with precision and care. Now take the rubber piece with the new buttons and cut off the excess rubber that would occupy the LED light compartment of the remote, as you can see in the video. Now insert the buttons into the key structure by pressing and fitting everything evenly. Reposition the small chip in its original position. If there is no longer space to reinsert it, you will need to cut a small piece of rubber from the new buttons to create space for the chip. Now all that is left is to reassemble everything by following the reverse process.
