Replacing Front Shock Absorber Springs

Model: BMW X3 MK 1, E83 - Years 2003-2010

To replace the front shock absorber springs, you must disassemble the shock absorbers themselves and have the appropriate clamp tool to compress the spring. First, lift the vehicle on a lift, remove the front wheel, disconnect the brake line cable, unscrew the mounting pins of the shock absorber from the hub support, and disconnect the link to extract the shock absorber from the hub support. Lower the lift to access the engine compartment and remove the shock absorber support from the body strut. Once the shock absorber is removed, compress the spring with the appropriate tool to complete the disassembly of the support and extract the spring. Insert and compress the new spring to mount the support onto the shaft and proceed in reverse for reassembly.
