How to Replace the Remote Key Battery on a BMW E91

The remote key battery for this car model is rechargeable (Panasonic ML2020 VL2020) and is soldered to the electronic circuit of the remote itself, so replacement is not actually intended; in fact, the remote shells are not snap-fit but thermally welded. To replace the battery, you must first extract the mechanical key and then use a utility knife to separate the two shells to access the circuit board. You will then need a solder sucker to desolder the old battery and solder in the new one; finally, you can choose to bond the two shells with glue or purchase new ones.
