Fiat 500L LPG: Stuttering and Switching to Petrol – The Real Cause
Model: Fiat 500
- Years 2012-2023
The video analyses a Fiat 500L 1.0 T-Jet with an original Landi Renzo LPG system, which experiences stuttering on LPG and, at idle, after about a minute, the engine light flashes and it automatically switches to petrol. The diagnosis reveals a misfire on injectors 3 and 4. The mechanic rules out the reducer: the test of pinching the hose going to the manifold does not eliminate the fault, and the pressure parameters are correct. The owner had already cleaned/revised the LPG injectors, but the problem returned after a few months. The real cause is the brass piston inside the Med injectors: when it rises (due to wear), the injector no longer delivers the correct amount of LPG and sends too much, causing errors. Cleaning does not resolve the issue as the piston cannot be recovered. The YouTuber compares two used injectors: one has the piston lower (still good), the other higher (to be replaced). The solution is to replace all four LPG injectors and change both filters (liquid phase and gas phase). The YouTuber criticises those who spend money to clean injectors, only to have to replace them after a few months: it's better to change them straight away.
