Replacing the Window Regulator Mechanism on Fiat Idea

Model: Fiat Idea MK 1 - Years 2003-2016

If the electric side window stops working but you can hear the motor running, the window regulator mechanism has likely worn out. It is a cable mechanism, slightly complex, that raises and lowers the side windows on command from the motor. Replacing it requires some skill but can be done at home with standard tools. First, remove the fabric panel from the door and unscrew the inner metal panel that covers the inside of the door. Without completely removing it, bend it downwards without disconnecting the electrical connections. If you have already purchased the correct new mechanism, you will notice where the four screws are that hold the mechanism to the metal panel. Secure the glass with a clamp to prevent it from sliding and unscrew the bolts that fix the window regulator. Now disconnect the functioning motor and mount it in position on the mechanism. Secure the bolts to keep the new part in place, manually hold the glass, and proceed to refit the metal panel to cover it. Leave the glass only when you have also partially secured the panel. Take the opportunity to clean and reassemble the fabric panel.
