How to Unscrew a Stripped Engine Oil Drain Plug

If the oil drain plug won't unscrew, there are several possible causes: excessive tightening or debris on the thread, such as sealing tape or worse, thread-locking adhesive, mistakenly applied by the last mechanic. The simplest method is to use a lever (a metal pipe) attached to the socket to multiply your force, but be careful not to round the edges of the plug head: once the corners are rounded, even the best socket won't grip properly. Therefore, use high-quality sockets: polygonal, hexagonal, or ring spanners. Avoid forked or adjustable spanners with movable jaws.
