How to Use the Emergency Key in the Driver's Door of the Kia Sportage

To open the driver's door of a Kia Sportage with the emergency key when the remote or car battery is flat, proceed as follows: first, if available, try a second remote to rule out a battery issue with the first. If it doesn't work, there is a small recess under the driver's door handle. Pull the handle outwards; using the physical key blade (removable from the remote), insert it into the designated hole and turn slightly to lever it off: the lock cover will detach. At this point, the lock cylinder is visible: insert the key and turn to unlock the door. Once opened, if the car battery is flat, recharge it; if the issue is with the remote, replace its battery. To reattach the lock cover, keep the handle pulled out, position the cover in place, and release the handle: it will snap back into position automatically.
