Removing Rear Drums and Shoes

Model: Vauxhall Astra Astra F - Years 1991-1998
Part: Brake drums and shoes

Lift the rear of the vehicle using a jack positioned under the rear axle (it is advisable to also insert support axle stands for safety). Then remove the rear wheels and locate the drum fixing screw (usually a Torx or star screw): unscrew the screw and remove the drum from the hub; if the drum is stuck on the hub, spray some penetrating oil and tap it with a hammer from the front. Once the drum is removed, you can access the shoes and the activation cylinder: check the wear condition of the shoes and any oil leaks from the cylinders.
