Cleaning and Lubricating Door Struts

A maintenance task that is often overlooked but is very useful and effective is the cleaning and lubrication of door hinges and struts. Once the door is fully opened, clean the strut of any dirt residues and apply spray grease. Then, lubricate the hinges by removing the protective rubber and applying grease inside the hinge pin; reposition the rubber afterwards. Repeat the procedure on the other doors: this way, you will avoid squeaks and noises from the hinges and struts, and they will be better preserved over time.

If the central locking system of the Volkswagen Golf 4 is not working, it is likely necessary to reset the system: to do this, open the driver's door and detach the side panel of the dashboard next to the steering wheel.
