How to change the number plate light on a Peugeot 3008 mk2

To change the number plate light on a Peugeot 3008 MK2 (2016-2023), the procedure is simple and requires a flathead screwdriver and a W5W bulb. Open the rear tailgate.

With the screwdriver, gently pry in the gap between the transparent plastic of the light and the tailgate to release the lens from the clip. Remove the lens and take out the old bulb from the holder.

Insert the new one, avoiding touching the glass with your fingers (the oil from your skin can cause premature breakage). Reposition the lens by pushing it until it clicks.

Repeat for the other light. Be aware of the CANBUS issue: if you replace the original halogen lights (5W) with aftermarket LED bulbs or modules, the ECU of the 3008 MK2 may interpret the lower consumption as a fault and illuminate a warning light on the dashboard (or cause flickering).

To avoid this, use LED bulbs or kits specifically for Peugeot 3008 MK2 with integrated CANBUS resistors ("Canbus Error Free" or "Anti-Error OBD": available on eBay with code 363398852998 at a price of £4.40 each). If the 3008 is equipped with factory-fitted LED lights, the single bulb cannot be replaced: the entire module must be replaced.
