Place the gearbox in neutral, pull the boot base to release it and lift it completely. With a wire cutter, cut and remove the metal strap located on the inside, under the gear knob. Push the entire cap to the base, keeping only the knob uncovered. Holding it with both hands, turn it counterclockwise for a quarter of a turn and pull it upwards. If you find it particularly difficult to extract the knob, you could help yourself by positioning two pliers and levering them. At this point you can insert the new knob by pressing it in place of the old one. Use an electrician's plastic tie, instead of the previously cut metal strap, to lock the headset and re-fit it to the base of the gearbox.
