Carplay Mirrors

In this video, we will see the installation of a Carplay mirror. These devices have never been widely adopted, although they are an interesting option for modernising a car without replacing the original infotainment system. They indeed have pros and cons to consider: among the pros is bringing Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to vehicles lacking a screen or with obsolete systems; they integrate GPS, calls, messages, and music into a single device. Their installation is non-invasive, as they mount onto the existing rear-view mirror without complex wiring: some models are powered via USB or cigarette lighter, avoiding modifications to the electrical system. However, they also have many disadvantages: a very small screen, an angle that makes reading difficult compared to the dashboard screen. If poorly positioned, it can partially obstruct the windscreen, creating a blind spot; the audio and microphone quality is very poor, and they have the flaw of overheating in the sun, shutting down; the touch response is not always smooth; at night, the screen can be excessively bright.
