How to Replace the Front Strut on the Renault Kangoo 1

Here’s how to replace the strut on the Renault Kangoo 1. This operation requires a professional spring compressor; without it, the task is not possible. Loosen (without removing) the central nut of the strut from the engine bay, then lift the front of the vehicle and remove the wheel. To detach from the ball joint, clean the bolts with a brush and WD-40, then unscrew them and support the hub with a jack. Completely unscrew the upper bolts (under the bonnet) and extract the spring/strut assembly from the wheel arch. Mount the assembly on the hydraulic spring compressor and safely compress the spring, ensuring the coils are well secured. With the spring compressed, unscrew the central nut that secures the upper mount. Remove the upper mount, bearing, dust cover, and finally the spring, freeing the old strut. Manually purge the new strut 3 to 5 times, position the new strut on the compressor, and reassemble the dust cover, spring, and upper mount. With the spring compressed, screw on the central nut and tighten to 60 Nm. Release the compressor and insert the assembly into the wheel arch, manually screwing in the upper fixings. Connect the strut to the hub, reassemble the wheel, and from under the bonnet, tighten the upper nuts. You can now refit the protective cover.
