How to change the alternator on the Renault Clio II

See how to change the alternator on the Renault Clio II: first disconnect the battery, then remove the front grille (there are only two screws on each side). Lift the coolant expansion tank and move it without disconnecting the hoses.

The alternator is secured with a long through bolt, with a 13 mm nut on one side; on the other side, the bolt has a Torx head, and then unscrew the third fixing screw. Once the fixings are removed, tilt the alternator slightly forward and remove the belt.

Insert the new alternator, reattach the belt (before fully securing the part), tighten the bolts, and adjust the belt tension. The video suggests a method using a "guitar tuner": tension the belt to a frequency of 720 Hz (note F#); alternatively, manually tension it until you can twist the belt 90° in the longest section.

Refit the expansion tank and grille, reconnect the battery, start the vehicle, and check that the battery warning light goes out.
