Instructions for Replacing the Alternator

Model: Saab 9 5 Ys3e, MK 1 - Years 1997-2010
Part: Alternator

The alternator is located at the rear left of the engine bay (when facing the front), in a rather awkward position. To facilitate the disassembly process, it is recommended to lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift or suitable axle stands, applying a jack or a hoist under the engine to support it since it will be necessary to remove the side engine mount; also remove the front right wheel to ease the removal of the auxiliary belt (loosen the tensioner by rotating it using a ratchet extension).
Once the belt is detached and the engine mount is removed, unscrew the mounting bolts and extract the alternator.
