To change the engine oil in a Smart, loosen the drain plug of the oil sump, located at the rear underside of the vehicle. Once this plug is unscrewed, collect all the used oil in a suitably positioned container.

After the oil has drained out, you can also remove the oil filter located in this position; this can be replaced with a new spare part, followed by topping up. This operation is performed by opening the rear hatch and lifting the cover at the base of the rear compartment: underneath, you will find the engine and the corresponding breather.
