How to Replace Oil Filter and Engine Oil in Smart Fortwo

Replacing the oil filter and engine oil on a Smart Fortwo model 450/451 is a simple and quick task. Open the front bonnet of the vehicle and remove the oil dipstick. Unscrew the cap of the oil reservoir to pour in the pre-change fluid. Allow the pre-change fluid to act inside the reservoir for about 30 minutes before lifting the vehicle on a ramp and removing the oil sump bolt. Remove the lower engine cover and unscrew the oil sump bolt to let the used oil drain into a container. Once the oil has completely drained from the reservoir, close the bolt and lower the vehicle. Pour approximately 4 litres of new oil into the oil reservoir. Insert the dipstick back into the fluid and close the front bonnet.
