How to remove the steering wheel with airbag on a Smart Fortwo? This operation is very simple if you follow the steps. Insert a medium-length screwdriver or a key into the side slots on the steering wheel and unscrew the securing bolts. Once the bolts are removed, disconnect the power connectors and pull the steering wheel off the steering column (remove the airbag from the steering wheel). For reassembly: connect the power connector, then insert the steering wheel onto the steering column, pressing it in until it is fully seated, and tighten the securing bolts.
