Don't know how to remove the fuel filler cap on Smart Fortwo? Follow these steps: open the fuel filler cap, unscrew the screws around the perimeter of the fuel filler cap with a screwdriver or socket wrench. Remove the internal plastic of the fuel cap. After unscrewing the screws, remove the screws from the inner plastic of the fuel filler cap, take out all the screws, and unscrew the large central cap by hand (remove it). Finally, detach the plastic from the fuel compartment.

Refit the new fuel filler cap with the screws and associated parts.
