Replacing Hydraulic Struts on Smart Fortwo Rear Glass

If the tailgate/rear glass of your Smart 450 does not stay up after opening, you need to replace the hydraulic struts, which are likely damaged. This is very simple; you only need a medium-small flat-head screwdriver: use it to detach the retaining clip that holds the strut at the top, where it connects to the tailgate. Then move to the lower connection and do the same. Be careful, as you will need to support the glass while removing the struts. To fit the new struts, simply insert them into the connections and apply pressure until you hear the classic click.
