To remove the outer door panel of the Smart Forfour, detach the side cover of the outer door handle. This will allow you to unscrew the side screw of the door mechanism, enabling the actuator to be removed by disconnecting its connector.

Now, detach the triangular panel near the external mirror so that the screws securing it can be unscrewed. Once the mirror is removed, unscrew the final screws securing the outer panel at the top; finally, the panel can be detached from the door and replaced with a new one.
