How to replace the rear brake pads on a Smart 451 Fortwo Coupe

This guide shows how to replace the rear brake pads on a Smart 451 Fortwo Coupe. To perform this operation, you need to safely lift the vehicle and remove the rear wheels to access the brakes. The first step is to unscrew the Torx T27 retaining screw and tap the drum cover to dislodge it. Remove the cover to access the shoes. Using pliers, detach the two retaining pins of the plates; these pins can only be unscrewed in one direction. To remove the two pads, first pull out the lower part, allowing you to remove the springs and free the two brake arms. Disconnect the handbrake cable and remove the old pads. The video shows the correct arrangement of the parts inside the drum. Clean the inside of the drum with a wire brush to remove dirt. Insert the new pads with the springs and the upper retaining rod, followed by the lower spring. Reassemble everything and check the correct functioning of the brakes.
