How the stereo of a Smart works

Let's see in detail the function of each single key of the Smart stereo. Let's start with a simple thing: the "On" key is the ignition key. The numbered buttons 1 to 6 are the ones we use for preset stations. To select a station, just position yourself and hold down the selected button for a few seconds. "SRC" is for selecting the audio source. If we press "RND" and we are in AUX, our audio tracks will change randomly. "eject" is used to eject a possible CD. If we press the "bass/treb" key and then rotate the central key, we adjust the bass or treble. If we go to press "bal" we can adjust the audio so that it comes out more from the right or left channel. By pressing "menu" we can select which type of radio station we are interested in. For example, if we are interested in sport, we select it and it will automatically look for the first one that talks about sport. On the button/wheel the forward and backward arrows are used to move manually to the radio stations. "seek" automatically finds the next available station. With the "scan" key the radio will let us listen to each station for 5 seconds until we have found the one we like. When we have found it, we press "scan" again. The "mute" key is used to temporarily silence the radio. The "TA" button will cause the radio to automatically tune to the next station broadcasting traffic alerts, then return to our station. "AM/FM" is used to switch between frequency modulated and amplitude modulated frequencies.
