ESP stands for Elektronisches Stabilitätsprogramm, also known in the UK as ESC or Electronic Stability Control. It is disabled when the road is particularly muddy or snowy.

To disable it on a Smart 451, follow this procedure: start the engine, then press the button next to the padlock symbol. You will see that the ESP warning light is illuminated.

After pressing the button, a LED will light up on it. Turn off the engine. Press the button again with the LED on. Restart the engine.

You will see that the ESP warning light is now off.
