How to Cover the Wheel Arch Bulge Inside the Toyota Hiace (If We Want to Convert It to a Camper)

If you want to convert your Toyota Hiace van (but this applies to all vans; the issue is the same for all), follow the advice in this video. Inside the cargo area, there is a wheel arch bulge that should not be covered but made "passable" by creating a continuous and rigid floor that gradually goes over it. The goal is to have only a small height difference that is easy to manage. Measure the maximum height of the bulge from the metal floor, decide on the desired final height of the floor: usually, it should be flush or slightly above the seat rails. The difference between these two measurements will tell you the total thickness of the floor package (structure + insulation + underlay). Create a frame around the bulge, then build a network of wooden cross members that span the protrusion; these will not all be at the same height, but those near the bulge will be higher, while those further away will be lower. The aim is to create a sloping surface. In the spaces between the cross members, insert insulation panels; seal everything with specific tape and fix the first layer of underlay above the structure, and the bulge will already be significantly mitigated; for perfect levelling, add a second layer of insulation.
