How to Fold Down the Rear Seats of the Toyota Yaris Cross

On the Toyota Yaris Cross, you can quickly increase boot space by folding down the rear seat backs. This operation is designed to be simple and does not require tools, but it should be done methodically to avoid jams or damage to the upholstery.

First, ensure there are no objects on the rear seat and that the seat belts are correctly retracted into their holders. This step prevents the seat belts from getting trapped between the backrest and the seat once the manoeuvre is completed.

Accessing from the cabin or the boot, locate the release levers on the top of the seat backs. Each side operates independently, allowing you to fold down just a portion of the seat or both.

Pulling the corresponding lever unlocks the backrest, which can then be pushed forward by hand until it rests on the seat. During this movement, guide the backrest without letting it drop abruptly to preserve the hinges and internal mechanisms.

Once the folding is complete, the resulting surface allows for loading long or bulky items, such as large suitcases, pushchairs, or small furniture. To restore the standard configuration, simply lift the backrest back to the upright position.
