Reasons to Check the Timing Belt Before Replacement Interval

Even if you are far from the timing belt replacement interval recommended by your car manufacturer, it’s not a bad idea to take a look at the timing belt. In this video, we see why: the water pump bushing may have worn out, leaking scale that prematurely damages the belt. Or the tensioner bearing may show grease coming out from inside, indicating premature wear. So when servicing the vehicle, especially after 62,000 miles, it’s best to loosen the timing belt cover to take a look. Manufacturers also state that the belt should be changed at 124,000 miles or 10 years; it is always written that it should be regularly checked. The belt shown in the video, if not checked, would definitely have snapped, causing serious (and costly) issues for the engine.
