This symbol appears on all winter tyres, but on its own, it does not identify a true winter tyre.

The actual identification of a winter tyre is the 3PMSF (3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake) symbol, which represents a mountain with three peaks and a snowflake. Typically, a tyre with only the M+S symbol is classified as an "all season" tyre.
