How to Replace the Oil Sump on a Volkswagen Golf MK6

Here’s how to change the oil sump on a Volkswagen Golf MK6: lift the car, completely drain the oil, and undo the 20 T30 screws that hold the sump to the engine, going around the entire perimeter. Once the screws are removed, the sump will still be attached due to the sealant; place a cardboard under the engine and detach it with firm but controlled taps from a rubber mallet. Now, carefully scrape off all the old sealant from the mating surface, which must be perfectly clean, including where the threads are. Degrease the engine surface thoroughly with brake cleaner; take this opportunity to check that the oil suction tube is clean. Now apply the new sealant, following the inner perimeter of the screw holes. Keep everything handy, as the sealant gives you only 5 minutes before it starts to set. Position the new sump (which you can find on auto-doc.it with EAN code 4059191560004 at a price of £30.49 + £9.95 shipping), and start inserting the screws by hand. Then tighten, always starting from the centre outwards, to 8 Nm. Refit the oil level sensor cover, tighten the drain plug, and let the sealant cure for at least an hour. Top up with new oil and check for leaks. If everything is in order, refit the undertray and you’re done.
