How to Replace the Radio in a Volkswagen Golf MK5 GTI

Learn how to replace the radio in a Volkswagen Golf MK5 GTI. First, remove the trim around the climate control. Insert flat keys or a screwdriver into the slots on either side of the climate control (above the radio) and turn them outward to release the clips. Be careful not to break the plastic tabs. Once the trim is removed, you will find the climate control unit; unlock and disconnect its electrical connector and unscrew the two T20 Torx screws securing the climate control, then remove it. Now you can see the plastic frame surrounding the radio; unlock it by lifting it forward. With the frame removed, you will see four T20 Torx screws securing the radio; unscrew them and pull the radio from its housing. Disconnect all connectors behind the radio, insert the new radio into the housing, screw in the four screws, and reassemble everything in reverse order (frame, climate control, trim). No purchasing advice for the new radio is provided: there are countless options available online, all plug & play and for every budget.
