How to Replace the Key Battery on a Volkswagen Passat?

This guide explains how to replace the battery in the car key: first, extract the emergency key. Then, apply pressure with your fingers to compress the remote on the short side to release the aluminium rear cover. Next, use a sharp object to lever in the gap between the two halves of the key. At this point, remove the rear cover to access the battery compartment. Lift the battery out of its slot and replace it with a new one of the same type (CR 2032). Finally, reassemble the rear cover and the casing, and reinsert the emergency key.
