Replacement of the Fan Bearing

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

If you hear a squeaking noise coming from the engine bay near the auxiliary belt, it is likely that a tensioner or one of the bearings driven by the auxiliary belt has failed: in this case, it is the fan bearing; to replace this bearing, which is fixed to the aluminium support plate located between the engine and the gearbox, you need to remove the alternator, the fan, and the fixing pins of the plate itself; additionally, to extract the plate, you must disconnect a hose, draining some of the coolant; once the plate is on the bench, you can proceed with the bearing replacement.
