Volkswagen Passat - Video tutorial

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005
Part: Bearing
Operation: Replacing the frictioned fan bearing

If you hear a squeak coming from the engine compartment in correspondence with the auxiliary belt, it is likely that a pulley or one of the bearings driven by the auxiliary belt may have been damaged: in this case it is the friction bearing of the fan; in order to replace this bearing which is fixed to the aluminum support plate located between the engine and gearbox, it is necessary to remove the alternator, the fan and the fixing pins of the plate itself; furthermore, in order to extract the plate, a sleeve must be disconnected, discharging part of the coolant; once the plate has been placed on the bench, the bearing can be replaced.
